Crescent Roll Recipes
Crescent roll recipes always delight both kids and adults. While searching for a new Christmas brunch idea this year, I decided to use crescent rolls. A few days ago, I made both a Sausage Cream Cheese Crescent Roll Bites and this recipe for our family gathering. My 7-year-old daughter fought with her uncles over them! Trust me, when you try this version of a Crescent Ring with deer sausage and cheese, it will disappear quickly at your next holiday breakfast or brunch. Plus, creating something this impressive is much simpler than you’d expect.
Why You’ll Love This Sausage Crescent Ring
If you’re a deer hunter, you probably already have a stash of venison sausage in the freezer. This recipe transforms that venison sausage into something extra special. The buttery crescent rolls wrap around the savory sausage and melted cheese, creating a golden ring that’s as delicious as it is beautiful. Plus, it’s quick and easy to prepare, so you’ll have more time to spend with family.
This breakfast dish combines the nostalgia of Pillsbury recipes with the satisfaction of showcasing your venison.
Crescent Ring Ingredients
- 1 pound venison breakfast sausage
- 2 8-ounce cans refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1 ½ cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 egg (optional)
How To Make A Crescent Ring
1. Cook the Sausage Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the venison breakfast sausage for about 8 minutes, stirring frequently until it is fully cooked. Drain any excess grease and set the sausage aside.
2. Prepare the Dough Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Unroll the crescent dough onto a large baking sheet and separate it into 16 triangles. Arrange 8 triangles in a sun shape with the shortest sides toward the center and slightly overlapping. Leave a 4-inch circle open in the center. To make this easier, place a soup bowl in the middle and work around it.
3. Add the Filling Sprinkle the cooked and crumbled sausage evenly over the dough ring. Top the sausage with shredded Monterey Jack cheese for a gooey, melty finish.
4. Shape the Ring Pull the pointed ends of the crescent dough triangles over the filling. Tuck the points under the base of the ring to seal it. Continue this process around the entire ring until the filling is enclosed.
5. Optional Egg Wash If you’d like a glossy finish, brush the crescent ring with a beaten egg.
6. Bake Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the crescent dough turns golden brown. Remove the ring from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
Tips For Success
- Keep it neat: To make shaping the ring easier, chill the crescent dough for 10 minutes before unrolling it. This helps the dough hold its shape.
- Use a liner: Place parchment paper on your baking sheet for easy cleanup.
- Cheese options: If Monterey Jack isn’t your favorite, swap it for cheddar, pepper jack, or mozzarella.
