That was my inspiration for this Christmas recipe for Sausage Cream Cheese Crescent Roll Bites. These little treasures are perfect for using up some of the venison sausage stashed in your freezer. Plus, they’re super simple to make and guaranteed to impress your holiday guests.
This recipe combines flaky Pillsbury crescent rolls, creamy cheese, tangy cranberry sauce, and savory venison sausage. The result? Bite-sized holiday magic that’s as easy on your wallet as it is on your taste buds.
After hanging Christmas lights, wrapping gifts, and helping Saint Nicholas stuff those stockings, it's hard to find the energy to make something fancy for house guests - let alone a holiday work party. It's easy to understand why cranberry cheese bites have become such a popular party appetizer during the holidays. They're the perfect size for nibbling and foolproof.
Why You'll Love These Cranberry Cream Cheese Bites
- Budget-Friendly: Christmas can be expensive, so it’s nice to have a recipe that’s both festive and affordable.
- Easy to Make: With just four ingredients and 10 minutes of baking time, you can whip these up in no time.
- Perfect for Wild Game Lovers: This is a great way to showcase that venison sausage you have in your freezer, but you can also use any breakfast sausage you have on hand.
- Crowd-Pleasing: Whether served as an appetizer, snack, or part of a brunch spread, these cranberry cream cheese bites are always a hit.
Ingredients You'll Need
- 1 8-ounce tube Pillsbury crescent rolls
- 3 ounces breakfast deer sausage, cooked and crumbled
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- ⅓ cup whole berry cranberry sauce
That’s it! Just four simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F. While it’s heating, gather your ingredients and tools.
- Prepare the Dough: Unroll the Pillsbury crescent rolls onto a large cutting board. Gently press the seams together so you have one cohesive sheet of dough.
- Cut the Dough: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, divide the dough into 24 squares. Place each square into the cup of a mini muffin pan.
- Add the Sausage: Spoon 1 teaspoon of the cooked and crumbled venison sausage into each dough-filled muffin cup.
- Add the Cream Cheese: Cut the cream cheese into 24 small pieces. Place one piece on top of the sausage in each cup.
- Top with Cranberry Sauce: Add about 1 teaspoon of whole berry cranberry sauce on top of the cream cheese.
- Bake: Pop the muffin pan into the oven and bake for 10 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the fillings are bubbly.
- Serve Warm: Carefully remove the bites from the muffin pan and serve immediately. Trust me, they’re best when warm and fresh out of the oven.
Pro Tips For Success
- Prep Ahead: You can cook and crumble the venison sausage a day in advance to save time.
- Experiment with Flavors: If you’re feeling adventurous, swap the cranberry sauce for another jam or jelly. Apricot preserves or spicy pepper jelly could be fun twists.
- Freeze for Later: These bites freeze well. Just pop them in an airtight container and reheat in the oven when ready to serve.
Christmas Recipes
When I think of Christmas recipes, I picture dishes that bring people together. These Sausage Cream Cheese Crescent Roll Bites do just that. They were easy enough for our young daughter to help me assemble, and the venison sausage is an excuse to repeat that deer hunting story at a holiday gathering. Plus, their festive flavors - savory sausage, creamy cheese, and sweet cranberry - are a nod to classic Christmas tastes.
