You need the moisture that comes with freshly shredded block cheese. The shredded cheese in the 8-ounce bags is dry and you will end up with a dry product.- You can definitely change up the type of cheese to whatever flavor you prefer, but a sharp cheddar is delicious!- If the batter seems dry, add in 2 tablespoons of milk. If you use my homemade deer sausage it shouldn't be too greasy, so you also might have to add in milk.MORE CHRISTMAS RECIPE IDEAS USING DEER SAUSAGEIf you are looking for a new Christmas recipe idea and a great way to use some of that deer sausage in your freezer, check out my Deer Sausage and Cheese Crescent Ring and Deer Sausage Cranberry Cream Cheese Bites.I hope this sausage balls recipe and my other venison recipes will give you inspiration and motivation you need to get excited about sharing some of the wild game with family and friends this holiday season. If you are headed our way for North Dakota deer season, check out the North Dakota Game & Fish Department website.
